Something about October in the Texas Hill Country seems to lend itself to social activities and creative endeavors. The summer doldrums have finally been kicked out the door, and everyone is ready to be reinvigorated.
With the significant German heritage in many Hill Country towns, Oktoberfest celebrations abound. So why not roll all these things into one celebration–throw some bloggers, podcasters and social media creators into the mix, hold it in a pub, add a coffeeshop crawl, and you’ve got … Blogtoberfest.
This first annual event will be a short one–just one evening–but it will be packed with fun, a smattering of education (watch for the 5-5-5 announcement), and plenty of time for networking and making friends in the social mediasphere.
The following day–Saturday, October 6–will be BarCamp San Marcos. More geeky goodness!
Blogtoberfest is the brainchild of Connie Reece, principal of Reece & Company, founder of Every Dot Connects, and acting Executive Director of Social Media Club, an international best practices group for users and creators of emerging media.
The backbone of Blogtoberfest, however, is the amazing expertise of Kelley Burrus and Mike Chapman, fellow dot-connectors and social media mavens.
Scott Gregson, publisher of Newstreamz.com–which will be launched the weekend of Blogtoberfest–has provided invaluable behind-the-scenes support, as well as Melissa Cronin, graphic designer, and Michelle Wolverton, virtual assistant par excellence and our very own Geeky Girl Friday.
